Oct 21st 2009 Start A Flower Garden

With so many people focusing on all sorts of exotic types of gardens these days there seems to be far less emphasis on a basic type that many people would have started out with and fallen in love with. The idea is flower gardening and it doesn’t matter whether the flowers are annuals or perennials, they’re the kinds of plants that attracts most gardeners in the first place.

Flowers don’t only attract gardeners, either. Bees and birds are also going to be regular visitors to the garden if there is an abundant array of flowers constantly in bloom. By carefully planning out the garden it is possible to have something in bloom no matter what time of year it is, depending on you local climate.

As with other types of gardens it is important to prepare the garden bed with plenty of organic matter to make the soil fertile and rich. The better prepared the garden bed, the bigger the blooms and the larger the display of flowers in your garden. An easy way to ensure that you’ve got a steady supply of organic material is to maintain a compost heap in the yard, using the half-rotted matter as it becomes available.

Why not start a flower garden today, even if it’s just in an unused, sunny part of your already established garden. A bright display of blooms is always going to be an attractive feature.
