Jun 5th 2009 Looking For Resources

There are a number of choices to make when changing the backyard, particularly when you’re changing it as drastically as installing synthetic grass. Apart from working out the brand to buy you’ve got to check around and find the most suitable synthetic grass supplier. Not a simple task when you consider the number out there in the market.

After finding a suitable synthetic grass, the installation comes next and you have a choice of either installing it yourself, a DIY synthetic grass installation, or having the experts come in an do the job for you. One option will cost a little more than the other, but if you’re like me and not particularly handy, you’d probably rather have the peace of mind in knowing that thejob is done right.

Residential synthetic grass has been improving as time has passed. The artificial grass looks much more life-like than the original types of synthetic grass and is certainly an addition to the backyard that will improve its look.

Mar 31st 2009 The Hidden Charges of Buying Synthetic Grass

The cost of synthetic grass will not only be determined by the advertised price per foot that you will see posted by most companies. There are other important factors to consider such as the cost of the installation. Driving the price up even further are some factors that will affect the cost of installation and some of these may be specific to you alone.

Things such as whether there is easy access to the location that the synthetic grass is going to be laid. If there are stairs, a challenging slope or a narrow access – or even no access to the backyard will increase labor charges. If there is any demolition that has to take place before the area can be prepared for grass laying, this will further increase cost.

Buying artificial grass is inevitably a big step for two reasons. The obvious is the up front cost which can seem quite prohibitive but the second is more environmental in nature because you are also changing the look of the landscape in a major way.

Mar 26th 2009 Unable to Get Grass To Grow

The backyard is constantly in shade and the traffic is heavy, consequently the grass simply never gets a chance to grow. There’s not a lot that can be done about it short of replacing the lawn with something else.

The first option may be to put in a little garden where the worst of the dead patch lies. But that may not be practical, particularly if there is a lot of foot traffic through the space or if you’d simply like the open space that your backyard affords.

The answer may well be a new synthetic grass lawn. These days the technological advancements of synthetic grass means that it is looking even more and more like a natural grass, even down to some manufacturers adding yellow or brownish strands of grass to make it look as though there is a little bit of die-off going on. After all, the fact that the lawn looks too perfect is a dead give away that it’s artificial.

Choosing to buy synthetic grass may be the first step, and it may well even be the easiest step. The hard part comes later when you’re left with choosing synthetic grass and sifting through all of the various options available to you.

Mar 4th 2009 Synthetic Grass May Be Installed at Beaver Stadium

Plans are underway for the possibility of installing synthetic grass at Fighting Beaver Stadium in Ohio. The Beaver Local Athletic Committee has met with the owners of ForeverLawn Inc in talks that were deemed a preliminary feasibility study.

The possibility of installing an all-weather surface to the stadium is seen as a driving factor behind the talks with the fact that it would be possible to get more use out of the field a positive. Athletic Board Member John Campbell said he would be interested in seeing the financial figures that the school uses on maintenance on all the fields. Comparisons need to be taken between work that goes into the upkeep of a natural grass field and that of an artificial turf field.

A rough estimate of $285,000 to $355,000 for the turf installation at the 71,250 square feet site was suggested at the meeting. That price doesn’t include any of the excavation work that would be required to lay aggregate and other base materials.

The question of the dangers of lead in the synthetic grass materials was brought up by the Committee and they were assured that this danger is non-existent in this particular product. A synthetic turf field such as this one comes with an eight year warranty that covers normal wear and tear, but the life of the synthetic grass is more likely to last upwards of 10 to 12 years.

Feb 26th 2009 Latest Study Rules Synthetic Grass Safe

There has been a lot of noise recently about concerns regarding the safety of synthetic turf with regards to the toxicity of the infill and how it might affect the health of those who play on it. When the cost of synthetic grass makes it a significant investment, it is probably a relief to many companies to hear the results of the latest study.

A recent year long study conducted by an environmental science firm by the name of Milone and MacBroom has come to the unequivocal conclusion that there is “no concern with regards to the safety of synthetic turf fields”.

To come to this conclusion there was testing done on the storm-water run-off from three different fields for a year with analysis done on the concentration of metals to determine whether aquatic life would be at risk. They found that there was no increase in the pollutant levels.

Similarly, air samples were collected around synthetic turf fields to determine whether toxic gases were emitted. The testing has shown that no pollutant was detected at four feet above the paying surface.

One of the criticisms that is often heard about artificial grass fields is that the temperature is considerably higher than natural grass. It has been found that the synthetic grass blades do heat up but they cool rapidly when the sunlight is interrupted or when water is applied.

This latest study indicates that improvements in technology for artificial grass is rendering many of the opposing arguments no longer valid. So when it comes to trying to decide whether to switch from natural grass to synthetic grass, those making the buying decision should be even more confident that what they are buying is environmentally and socially safe.
